Influencer Digest: Important updates to Facebook video

Here is your weekly dose of the best content and social marketing news and content curated from the web with insights to apply to your business.

What: Facebook videos in your News Feed soon autoplay with sound - Engadget

Why: Among a number of new video changes, Facebook has started rolling out auto-play sound on videos in the newsfeed for mobile.

This is a big deal as previously viewers watching videos without sound made up a large proportion of views and producers had to cater to this. Now the first few seconds of sound will be more important to grab attention.

What: Instagram Story ads now sold globally as standalone placements through Facebook’s self-serve tools - Marketing Land

Why: You can now use the Facebook ad manager to place your ads in-between Instagram stories. This opens up opportunities for full screen vertical video ads in Instagram while using Facebook's targeting. I expect we'll see pretty low CPMs in the early stages of this feature, so it's worth testing for sure!

What: How Facebook Messenger bots can now push out native, episodic content - Marketing Land

Why:Facebook Messenger has been getting a lot of updates recently and in particular chat bots are getting a lot of attention. You can now build out sequences of content with external links in the chat bots you create. I can see some big implications for ecommerce here as you can tailor a content sequence to a user's input and then offer targeted offers to buy right within the app.

What: Benefit Cosmetics

Why: This week I wanted to feature a Facebook page that is doing live videos really well and Benefit Cosmetics does some of the best. For example they do a regular show called 'Brow Hour' taking viewers through cosmetic related tutorials. This is fantastic branding and a great value add to their community. Check it out here.

What: London Real

Why: London Real offer high production value interviews with creatives and entrepreneurs. They've built a slick business model funnelling traffic from YouTube and their Podcast into their website and product ecosystem with seamless upsells, and very clean pre-roll ads for their product suite. I was really impressed with this execution and it's something to be modelled.

Why: TRISTANTALES was a shorty awards Snapchat finalist last year and he creates some of the most entertaining stories I've seen. He puts a ton of effort into creative and fanciful narratives. Check out his reel of highlights here:

What: @breakfast_snobs

Why: An emerging contender for a food porn award! These local Melbourne duo do a great job of posting beautiful food and their stories feature decadent eating experiences and behind the scenes content. Great account for the foodies.
